Are laptop companies lying about battery life? – Telegraph.co.uk

It can often seem that our devices never meet manufacturers’ estimates when it comes to battery life, with brand new laptops and smartphones losing charge well in advance of the estimated running time.

New research has revealed that this feeling could be more than a hunch and that manufacturers may be over-estimating laptop battery lives.

Almost all laptop makers overstate their battery expectations, with some predicting they will last for double the amount of time they do, according to tests by Which?.

“Manufacturers are missing their claims not by minutes, but by hours,” said Which?

The consumer affairs publication tested 67 laptop models from Acer, Apple, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Toshiba and found the biggest offenders are HP and Dell, with Apple being the only manufacturer to meet its claims.
